Jan. 8, 2009, the Hurricane Tigers dueled the Snow Canyon Warriors, at Hurricane High School, falling just short of the win at 37-36. Despite many changes made this year (new coaching staff, some junior and senior wrestlers who did not return, and teammates MIA because of injuries, eligibility etc.), the Tigers put up a good fight against the 4A Snow Canyon Warriors who have thus far had a very successful year.
Wrestling at 103 lbs., junior, Drew Mills started the fight with a pin. Others with points on the night included: Jordan Prince 112, Jace Jackson 119, and Alex Johnson 140. More pins for Tigers came from Kolby Griffin, Brian Scott 171 and Goma Nielson 285. Wrestlers that stepped out onto the mat the same night were Jeremy Evans 125, Justin Post 130, Jordan Peterson 135, Jacob Smith 160, and Chad Bourne 189, all of which put forth immense effort, but didn’t come out on top this time.
Fans can expect great things from any of the Hurricane Tiger wrestlers who spend numerous hours a week working on their skills and physical vigor in order to make weight and succeed.
